About chest specialists in Bangladesh
A chest specialist (pulmonologist or respiratory physician) treats diseases of the lungs and airways. Asthma, COPD, tuberculosis and pneumonia are major health problems in Bangladesh, made worse by air pollution, smoking and indoor cooking smoke.
Chest specialists in Bangladesh usually hold an MD (Chest Diseases/Respiratory Medicine), FCPS or a DTCD diploma. The National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) in Mohakhali is the main referral centre. TB testing and treatment are free at government DOTS centres.

- Asthma
- COPD and chronic bronchitis
- Tuberculosis (TB)
- Pneumonia and chest infections
- Interstitial lung disease
- Sleep apnoea
- Lung cancer (with oncologists)
When should you see a chest specialist?
- Cough lasting more than two to three weeks
- Coughing up blood
- Wheezing or breathlessness
- Recurrent chest infections
- Loud snoring with daytime sleepiness
Common tests a chest specialist may order
- Chest X-ray
- Spirometry (lung function test)

How to choose the right chest specialist
Qualifications: Chest specialists in Bangladesh usually hold MD (Chest Diseases/Respiratory Medicine), FCPS (Pulmonology), DTCD. Each doctor's degrees are shown on their profile above.
Registration: every MBBS and BDS doctor must be registered with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). You can check a doctor's registration number on the BMDC website.
Hospital and chamber: a chest specialist attached to a medical college or large hospital has easy access to tests and admission if you need them. For regular follow-up, a chamber close to home with convenient visiting hours often matters just as much.
Experience with your problem: many specialists have a special interest within their field. Read the designation and degrees on each profile, and ask at the first visit how often the doctor treats your condition.

Getting an appointment
Most chest specialists in Bangladesh see patients by serial at their chamber. Each profile on HealthCareBD shows the chamber name, address and visiting days and hours; doctors who have verified their profile also show their serial number and a WhatsApp booking button. Serials for popular specialists often fill up a day or more in advance, so book early, arrive a little before your time, and bring your previous prescriptions, test reports and the medicines you are currently taking.
