About dentists in Bangladesh

A dentist (dental surgeon) treats problems of the teeth, gums and mouth. All dentists in Bangladesh hold a BDS degree and must be registered with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). Many have further training in a specific field, such as root canal treatment, braces, dentures and implants, or oral surgery.

Tooth decay and gum disease are very common and are largely preventable with brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, cutting down on sugar, and a dental check-up every six to twelve months. Treating a small cavity early is quicker and cheaper than a root canal later.

Dentists by district

What does a dentist treat?

  • Tooth decay and fillings
  • Root canal treatment
  • Tooth extraction, including wisdom teeth
  • Gum disease and bleeding gums
  • Braces and teeth alignment (orthodontics)
  • Crowns, bridges, dentures and dental implants
  • Children's dental care
  • Mouth ulcers and oral surgery

When should you see a dentist?

  • Toothache or sensitivity to hot and cold
  • Bleeding or swollen gums
  • A broken or loose tooth
  • Bad breath that does not go away
  • Routine check-up and cleaning every 6 to 12 months

Common tests a dentist may order

  • Dental X-ray (IOPA)
  • OPG (full mouth X-ray)
  • CBCT scan before implants

Bring previous reports to your appointment. Recent tests done at another reputable centre are often accepted, which can save you time and money.

Emergency warning signs. Facial swelling with fever, swelling under the jaw that makes swallowing or breathing difficult, or heavy bleeding after an extraction need urgent care at a hospital.

How to choose the right dentist

Qualifications: Dentists in Bangladesh usually hold BDS; specialist degrees include MS or FCPS in Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and Periodontology. Each doctor's degrees are shown on their profile above.

Registration: every MBBS and BDS doctor must be registered with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). You can check a doctor's registration number on the BMDC website.

Hospital and chamber: a dentist attached to a medical college or large hospital has easy access to tests and admission if you need them. For regular follow-up, a chamber close to home with convenient visiting hours often matters just as much.

Experience with your problem: many specialists have a special interest within their field. Read the designation and degrees on each profile, and ask at the first visit how often the doctor treats your condition.

Getting an appointment

Most dentists in Bangladesh see patients by serial at their chamber. Each profile on HealthCareBD shows the chamber name, address and visiting days and hours; doctors who have verified their profile also show their serial number and a WhatsApp booking button. Serials for popular specialists often fill up a day or more in advance, so book early, arrive a little before your time, and bring your previous prescriptions, test reports and the medicines you are currently taking.
