About neurologists in Bangladesh
A neurologist (neuro medicine specialist) diagnoses and treats diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles without surgery. In Bangladesh, neurologists usually hold an MD (Neurology) or FCPS (Medicine) with neurology training, and many see patients in evening chambers at private hospitals and diagnostic centres after their government hospital duties.
Headache, dizziness, numbness, weakness, fits (seizures) and memory problems are the most common reasons patients see a neurologist. If surgery turns out to be needed, for example for a brain tumour or a slipped disc that presses on a nerve, the neurologist refers the patient to a neurosurgeon.

What does a neurologist treat?
- Stroke and mini-stroke (TIA), and recovery after stroke
- Migraine and other long-standing headaches
- Epilepsy and fits (seizures)
- Parkinson's disease and tremor
- Dementia and memory loss
- Peripheral neuropathy, often linked to diabetes
- Bell's palsy and other facial nerve problems
- Myasthenia gravis, motor neurone disease and muscle disorders
When should you see a neurologist?
- Headaches that are new, getting worse, or wake you from sleep
- Numbness, tingling or burning in the hands or feet
- Weakness of an arm, leg or one side of the face
- Dizziness, unsteady walking or frequent falls
- Blackouts, fits or episodes of staring and confusion
- Memory problems that affect daily life
Common tests a neurologist may order
- CT scan or MRI of the brain or spine
- EEG (brain wave test) for fits
- Nerve conduction study (NCS) and EMG for nerve and muscle problems
- Blood tests for sugar, vitamin B12 and thyroid
Bring previous reports to your appointment. Recent tests done at another reputable centre are often accepted, which can save you time and money.
How to choose the right neurologist
Qualifications: Neurologists in Bangladesh usually hold MD (Neurology), FCPS (Medicine), MRCP, or FCPS/MD with a neurology fellowship. Each doctor's degrees are shown on their profile above.
Registration: every MBBS and BDS doctor must be registered with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). You can check a doctor's registration number on the BMDC website.
Hospital and chamber: a neurologist attached to a medical college or large hospital has easy access to tests and admission if you need them. For regular follow-up, a chamber close to home with convenient visiting hours often matters just as much.
Experience with your problem: many specialists have a special interest within their field. Read the designation and degrees on each profile, and ask at the first visit how often the doctor treats your condition.

Getting an appointment
Most neurologists in Bangladesh see patients by serial at their chamber. Each profile on HealthCareBD shows the chamber name, address and visiting days and hours; doctors who have verified their profile also show their serial number and a WhatsApp booking button. Serials for popular specialists often fill up a day or more in advance, so book early, arrive a little before your time, and bring your previous prescriptions, test reports and the medicines you are currently taking.
